**MUSIC ANNOUNCEMENT** - OCTOBER 2011

Hi Peeps! Sooooooo October sees the return of Team Draper & Oreggio. Suffice to say that I'm giddy with excitement about hitting the studio again with The Legend to commence works on my debut album – whoop whoop! We worked amazingly well together the first time round and I was chuffed to bits with the outcome - the E.P. has done me good and proud - so it only makes sense to get our musical heads together the second time round! The album is still in its early stages of planning, however, I'm ready to lock myself away and work on some tracks with Dave to see where this journey is going to take us. Should you wish to check out Dave Draper's amazing work, please feel free to visit http://www.track-in-the-box.co.uk/ – he comes highly recommended!

I'm still pretty much carrying on with my writing and gigging with Mark Butler, the gigs we have done so far have been such a wicked experience – even though we've only been gigging in such a short time, we work really well together!!!

Another bit of exciting news, on 30 October 2011 I will be making my radio debut on 102.5 The Bridge FM on their Sunday show between 4.00 pm-5.00 pm, whereby I will be performing a couple of my songs as part of their live session and interview.

And that's about it for now! No doubt, I will post another blog update on the album's progress at http://www.sarahoreggio.co.uk/ and on Facebook.

Thanks for showing an interest in my music.

Cheers,

Much love, Sarah

Wychwood Music Festival/E.P.

Hi, some music news,

I've currently taken on the role as backing vocalist for an amazing Worcester-based female singer called Carly Dee.  I met Carly just under a year ago at a bowling alley we were both booked to play at in Worcester called Lanes Bar.

We met up a few times after that gig and she really showed an interest in my music and I really liked her vocal style and music, plus she's lovely to work with.

I've not done any sort of backing vocalist roles before, as generally, I class myself as a lead vocalist, however, it's good for me as a musician to try out new things.  Opportunities like this rarely come around and when it does you have to grab it by both hands and go with it - new doors are opening up for me all the time.  Plus it's great to be working with female singer that can sing!

Consequently, I will be performing with Carly Dee and her full band this Sunday 5 June at the Wychwood Music Festival in Cheltenham - our set starts at 7.00 pm - tickets are £60 for a day ticket.

Other acts performing on the day are as follows:-

The Charlatans (yes, THE CHARLATANS!!!); Roddy Woomble (Idlewild); The Wurzels (yes, THE WURZELS!!!); Eliza Carthy; Neville Staple; Babajack;Arcadian Kicks; The Waterboys; The Bluetones; Tallulah Fix and Milly Winter, to name a few....  If you would like more info on the acts playing, feel free to visit The Wychwood Music Festival website.

I've got butterflies the size of rhinos but we're gonna rock this festival!

On a separate note, copies of my debut E.P. Kaleidoscopic Rain are available to purchase - I'm currently selling them after my gigs and eventually, they will be available to purchase through my merchandise weblink as well as a downloadable format.  Gig dates will be added in the future.

Exciting times!

Sarah, xxxx!!!

E.P. News update

Hi peeps,

Got some really exciting news - the 4 song E.P. is now going to be a 5 song E.P.

I've decided to re-record Where We Collide as the final track, as I feel that it's worthy of been on there.  The original demo (which is the version that is on my website and myspace) was recorded at home by Simon Browne and I enlisted the help of my mate Scott Ewins of Vault of Eagle's fame to provide the drum work, which was recorded at his house.

The second bit of exciting news, is that I'M WORKING WITH MAGIC DAVE DRAPER AGAIN - yaaaaaay!!!!  This will commence in early April 2011, so I'm ecstatic to be working with him again - we worked fanstastically well before and I just can't wait!!!

The third bit of news is the artwork side of things - I'm getting closer to finding out what I would like to achieve and there are a couple of things, hopefully, coming about in the near future.  More will be revealed in due course.

The fourth bit of news, seeing as I've given away the fact that Where We Collide is going to be included, is the E.P.'s tracklisting.  Not sure about the running order but it goes something like this:-

Radar
Hologram
Harlequin
Where We Collide
Siren

The versions of these songs have also, just this minute, been uploaded to the BBC Introducing website.  As I'm based in the West Midlands (because I have a Birmingham postcode), it will be uploaded to the BBC "WM" Introducing show's database, which is broadcasted on a Thursday night from 10.00 pm onwards hosted by Brett Birks and Louise Brierley.  So, please tune in, hopefully, I'll get some airplay....

That's it for now folks - please feel free to come and check me out at one of my gigs - would love to see some familiar faces! I'm always updating the website with details.

So come along and show your support for live music in Birmingham & Worcester.

Lots of the good stuff, Sarah, xxx

E.P. news update

Hi!

So yeah, I'm now progressing to the next stage of my E.P. which is the artwork!!!

I met this guy called Terry Walls at a gig in Worcester, who is a Graphics Designer as well as an amazing musician who has shown a keen interest in myself, which is very touching actually.  He's kindly helping me out with the artwork for the E.P. and we will be brainstorming ideas together this Saturday.  I'm really looking forward to working with him and to find out what direction the muse will take us to this time.....

I have a couple of working titles, one of which describes how very individual these 4 songs are and the other describes my whole musical journey as been one long, hard, frustrating struggle.

I guess I was a bit naive in thinking, when I first started out making music, that it was all gonna be plain-sailing. Man, was I wrong or what! But still, I put myself through these “struggles” because that's what is part and parcel of pursuing music to a level that you can.  Life provides us with obstacles and it's the overcoming of them that makes us better at what we do.

When you see these deluded people on these superficial talent shows on TV, they think that it's EASY and in a way it is, because these shows are a big massive fame-making machine, but what they fail to realise is the other HARD stuff that comes with it. When they've been thrust into the limelight and at that stage, it's a matter of “sink or swim”, well, a lot of them “sink”!  This is because they can't take the heat and don't possess any form of raw talent, they're just mimicking who they've grown up listening to musically. When you take to the stage, it takes bollocks to possess your own persona and to perform on your own – you can either do it or you can't.  Been a proper musician is a long hard journey doing all of the small gigs (which is the most fun actually, for me personally...), playing to a small crowd who aren't listening, actually one person I knew once summed it up quite well to me, which is "performing to the barman" - LOL!!!  It takes years to actually get somewhere and these talent show darlings just want it handed to them on a plate - they just want the fame and money and not have any form of musical success, longevity or dignity.  To me, there's no satisfaction in that....

I knew in myself what I wanted and I've learnt so much good and bad stuff about music (put it this way, the bad stuff has been a major eye-opener for me) and I can gladly say that I'm happy I didn't quit music - believe me I came close...  I love the stage where I'm at now with my music.  It would have been too easy for me to just quit and I've come this far.  I'm happy to still be doing it, to still be putting myself through these nerve-racking situations.  That's the only way I can become a better musician, is to take risks - There's lots more road left on my musical journey....

Anyway, I've gone off on a bit of a tangent there - but I guess that's blogging for you.

I will "blog" again once things have progress with the artwork.

Thanks again for reading and taking an interest in my music.

Thanking you and loving you muchly, Sarah, xxx

Day 3 - Recording session with Dave Draper

Well today was the last day of my recording session with Dave Draper.  In the morning, Dave spent some time mixing Harlequin and also added a few more bits here and there to make it even more uplifting!  Then we moved onto the recording of the main vocals for Siren, Radar and Hologram, which was done in stages so as not to knacker the old voice out.

Later in the afternoon, we basically sat down and went through, with not too much of a fine toothed-comb, finalising all of the tracks.  The main vocals we recorded earlier in the day, was then mixed and again a little bit of magic dust was sprinkled over them to give it that extra kick.   We also decided to experiment with a few ideas for backing vocals and harmonies and they've turned out fanstastic.

When I first contacted Dave, my initial thoughts were that I just wanted your basic drum set, bass guitar and electric guitar set-up but I guess you don't really know how things will pan out once you get creative heads together and see where your muse takes you.  Our muse took us down the complete opposite route and we've ended up with a full-on production sound using electronic samples, whilst maintaining an acoustic feel.

I feel that this whole experience for me has been a major learning curve in terms of how things are musically put together.  When people are listening to new music and say they don't like it but without giving a valid reason why, it just proves that they aren't "listening" properly.  There's so much bloody hard work that goes into making music that people just don't realise.  I think that's why I love discovering new bands and singers cuz I can listen as well as feel a song.

Feeling a bit sad now actually as it just seems to be over in a flash, so I'd better get writing some more songs and start saving the pennies!  I have, however, come away with some badass tracks that I'm extremely proud of!!

A big THANK YOU to Dave for lending me your musical expertise AND also a big THANKS to Elly!

Now it's time for the next stage....!!!

Thanks again for reading folks - love ya, Sarah, xxx!

Day 2 - Recording Session with Dave Draper

As I'm writing this blog, I've got way too many thoughts floating around in my head about the direction I want to go with this E.P.  I'm just really excited for it to be heard by people.

I have had my eyes opened as to the how the whole recording process is done.  There's a lot of stuff involved not just musically but understanding how people work.  I'm just amazed at how much can be achieved with a bit of forward-thinking.

Anyway, today was spent putting flesh on the 4 songs.

Radar has had a level of re-structuring to it, to give it a more chilled out feel but with a driving force behind it still and we've obtained what we set out to achieve.  The next step for this one is to record the final take of the vocals.  It's got kind of a Ellie Goulding feel to it, we've still maintained it as an acoustic guitar track but have added electronic parts to it.  It sounds blooming brilliant and I'm extremely happy with it.

Harlequin has some extra gold dust sprinkled onto it and sounds so uplifting.  My Michelle Branch/Jewel/Sheryl Crow influences really show up on this track.

The afternoon was spent recording the final take guitar tracks for the 4 songs and a final take vocal track for Harlequin, which didn't really take all that long to be honest.

I've been the most chilled out I've ever been making this E.P. My initial thoughts was that it was gonna be quite stressful but it isn't, it's actually the complete opposite and I can honestly say that I'm enjoying the whole experience so much so that I don't want it to end.  I'm feeling a bit sad that tomorrow is the last day of recording tracks and finalising them.

Anyway, needs must - got another early start tomorrow.

Thanks again for reading about my experience, much love, Sarah, XXXXXXXXXX

Day 1 - Recording Session with Dave Draper - Jan 2011

Well today was an early start for me heading down to Evesham in the wee hours of the morning.  Traffic wasn't too bad and got down there (a bit lost) just after 9.00.  Anyway, got to Dave's studio and we was straight to work.  I can't describe to you how efficient Magic Dave is, yes Magic Dave with his magical musical wand who has managed to wow me all day and he's such a lovely bloke and makes you feel at ease.  Feeling lucky that I've got him on board!!!

Anyhow, today was spent mainly recording guide tracks just so Dave can get a feel for the song.  We then concentrated mainly on creating ideas for just the two songs, Harlequin and Hologram.

Not wanting to give too much away, both songs have taken on a new feel, especially Hologram.  We've basically, laid down drums using drum programming and bass and also a bit of electric guitar.  Hologram has a beautiful string section in it that just puts a lump in your throat and it's giving that extra dynamic feel.  Harlequin has that radio-friendly; driving theme to it that just makes you feel uplifted.

We've had a really good productive peak today which will continue tomorrow where we will be working on the other 3 songs and who knows how they will come out like.  We will also be laying down acoustic guitar and vocal tracks at some point.

So there's your little insight as to what we've both got up to today.  Anyway, not very rock n roll I know but I'm off to bed for a fresh start in the morning.

Thanks for taking the time to read about my experience!

Much love, Sarah, xxx
